Mat Sports is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering, promoting and encouraging the sport of amateur wrestling. It is our intention to build character, physical health and well-being, sportsmanship, self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes about dedication, persistence, and hard work among the youth of Marin and the surrounding bay area.

The club had shut down while I assumed the head coach responsibilities at San Rafael HS. I stepped down for the 2016-17 season to assist San Marin HS and spend my Daughter Samantha's last season with her. I'm proud of her competing four years in high school, 4 time MCAL medalist 106 lbs (Against Boys) and 3 time NCS placer.
The high school teams in Marin have had a major drop in participation. The world's first sport is seeing a drop all over the nation. Most parents know very little about the sport, I will spend the next few seasons focusing on educating the local community on the benefits of participation.

Our community offers a lot of choices for families to get their kids involved in. The case for wrestling - If your child has tried other sports and found them to boring or slow, or did not blossom because of the team dynamic, wrestling just might be the sport for your child. Combines the best of a team sport with the individuality athletes crave during competition.
“EVERYONE PARTICIPATES – fills the void that other organized sports lack, allowing everyone to participate at their own size & level.”
Wrestling is one of the safest sports one can participate in. Over 95% of the injuries are slight muscle pulls. There are three reasons for this safety record.
o It takes place on a 1.25 – 2 inch thick, foam rubber mat.
o There is one referee for just two participants of a match and the referee’s first responsibility is to ensure the safety of the two wrestlers.
o The rules and regulations of wrestling are written with the safety of the wrestlers taking paramount importance. Among the rules are no biting, punching, or grabbing of clothes; and the body slam, full nelson, hammerlock and grabbing of less than four fingers are also illegal.
