General Practice Schedule

Practices & Tournaments

PRACTICE are two nights a week from September through June.  Summer Practice will be determined by the level of participation.
A schedule of local tournaments are planned so that every club member of every ability level will have a competitive challenge.

Location: Novato High School cafeteria

Days: Every Tues/Fri from 4-5:30pm and Sunday 2-4pm

Membership/Insurance: You must have an AAU card ($14) to participate.  The AAU link can be found on the Mat Sports webpage.  If you purchased a card last year, it is    good through August 2012.

Club Fee: $30/month – we have to cover the cost of facilities. Fees can be paid in person or online at the Mat Sports website.

Ages: All ages are welcome.  Youth through adult as long as you have an AAU card and a club membership.

Optional Weight-Training:  We will host a 45 minute weight-training workout after each practice (power lifting).

*Sundays: I plan to take a group to San Jose’s Wrestling Prep Club every Sunday from 2-4pm – starting this week. We will leave NHS @ 12:30 and return around 5:30.  The club is free, just sign their waiver.  Each wrestler should get 7-10 matches against quality opponents – this will take you to the next level.  We will also have a coach @ Novato HS for those that wish to stay behind.  Wrestling Prep website:

Competitions

Here’s a list of upcoming events:

Mat Sports/SCWAY:  Schedule attached (Adobe form).  SCWAY is another organization that requires a membership ($15 per year): http://www.scway.org/Index.html

Bay Area Wrestling Association (BAWA): http://bayareawrestling.org/sched.html  A USA Wrestling card is required ($35 per year) www.themat.com

West Coast Nationals (folk style): April 21st – a good local event (I plan to attend) http://www.westcoastnationalswrestling.com/main.html

* I know the competition schedule can be confusing with the three different organizations (AAU, USA Wrestling, and SCWAY) and the different wrestling styles (folk, freestyle, Greco Roman).  I will try to send out a tournament schedule each week and discuss it at practice so we can arrange carpools, etc.

Summer Camps

There are several camps throughout the summer, I can find one for just about any week that works with your schedule.  Here are the ones I’d like to attend as a group:

Azevedo Hitchcock (http://www.wrestlingcamps.org/campsessions.php): Lake Tahoe July 24th – 27th (camp #4).  Fee: $280.  I plan to reserve a couple of A-frame cabins through the Coast Guard to cover our sleeping accommodations and to save money.  Please do not let the cost keep you from attending camp – scholarships are available!
We attending this camp last year with a handful of guys and had a great time!
